The Challenge
Our client had a requirement to establish secure connections to specific traffic signal sites in Bristol. The client had trialled a 4G solution with limited success.
The Research
Prosis conducted a communication survey to understand the clients present infrastructure and why their present trial was not achieving their desired outcomes. It was identified that the present configuration and hardware reconnected too many times during a 24-hour period with the ramifications that the site becomes isolated. The client had only limited ability to manage the present 4G equipment.
The Solution
Working with the clients’ 4G provider, we assisted in establishing a dedicated APN that enabled routed links from their traffic signal sites to their traffic management partner. We created a routable 4G data circuit with a fixed IP address that is only accessible via their dedicated APN.
We designed, tested, and implemented a secure routable connection path from their UTMC hosted platform to their 4G traffic signals. Our solution utilised Mikrotik 4G routers and LAN equipment to manage the LAN and WAN because of its durability, security credentials and abilities to work in extreme temperatures.
The Outcome
The client has a cost-effective, scalable, manageable, and secure Wide Area Network that their team have direct access to their signals. Prosis supplies fully pre-configured 4G sets for their traffic management contractors to install. Each set includes a service port for a traffic engineer to connect into to carry out upgrades and maintenance when on-site. The client has complete access to their on-street controllers and associated equipment, Prosis supports the client as we have the ability to manage, monitor and patch their Mikrotik equipment.
